Is The Yoke On You?
Worship Wednesday with Pastor Edith

Matthew 11:28-29
Have you ever had a morning that as soon as your feet hit the ground you found yourself going from one thing to another with thoughts that are scattered while all you want to do is be productive and faithful. Well, welcome to my morning. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a form of anxiety, but a joyful experience of so many wonderful opportunities that I am too excited to focus on one thing long enough to complete it. Thankfully, I have you to remind me to sit quietly with the Lord and focus on a midweek meditation, and so, here we go (smile).
“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light”.
The idea of the yoke is a reference to the teachings of Jesus. He compares them to the teachings of the Pharisees who were, at that time, placing heavy burdens of legalism on the faithful. Jesus simply asks the faithful to love God with all they have and love their neighbor as themselves (Matthew 22:37-40).
For those of you with a farming background, you may be familiar with a yoke that keeps two cows or oxen moving in the same direction safely. That is what Jesus does for us; he commands us to love God with all we are and all we have and love others the way we want to be loved and cared for. This moves believers along in the Kingdom way safely and carefully so as to move together in a forward direction, looking forward to His kingdom come.
Are you yoked with Christ? If not, consider how your life is moving and if you could use some rest from your burdens.
Sing – “Oh soul, are you weary and troubled, no light in the darkness you see. There’s hope for a look at the Savior, a life more abundant and free. Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of life will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace”.
AMEN and Pray on!
